RUGBYDUBS...A BRIEF HISTORY.

The concept of Rugbydubs goes back to Vanfest 2001, where it seemed that nearly every town in the country had its own VW club, except Rugby, which seemed so very strange given the amount of Aircooled VW’s running around Rugby at that time. This got the cogs turning and over the winter months, steps were taken to put this to rights.

The mad world of Rugbydubs can trace its roots back to the spring of 2002 when a few like-minded idiots decided to share their passion for all things dub related, an impromptu meet was put together at The Half Moon pub in town where Neil, Sandra, Bren, Adie and Mullett created a monster. Word soon spread through Rugby by various means, Neil wound up his pooter and formed the website (which he's been working on ever since!) whilst the rest of us 'flyered' or grabbed any aircooled v-dub we spotted. At that point the club's moto "Air-cooled in the Midlands" was coined. This is not to say we don't appreciate the odd water-pumper but we like our engines to be out the back and radiators to be in our houses. The first Big weekender we did as a club was BugJam 2002 when 7 dubs made the trip from Rugby to the Holy Land that is Santa Pod. The debauchery and shenanigans that happened that weekend were a sign of things to come - we know we had a good weekend by the headaches and the bruises but to be fair there's a fair bit we don't remember!! From here on in the club's number grew massively( we have been known to take over 80 people to big events before), you will now find people of all ages,backgrounds and professions who share a common love of all things air-cooled, and perhaps more importantly, having a laugh!! Now in our sixth year nothing's changed, the five original members are still idiots but the gangs much bigger now and we now boast a veritable plethora of happy-go-lucky buffoons!


Our members are now countrywide, not just from Rugby, anyone is welcomed with open arms...after that they are generally handed a 13mm spanner and a can of Fosters. We attend most if not all of the big shows but perhaps more importantly keep things buzzing at a more local level with regular organised meets and even more impromptu gatherings generally involving some form of V-dub 'mechanicanisms'. We now boast one of the best club websites going, if you're new feel free to log-in and say 'hi', the sites full of people who'll help you out, offer advice or confuse the hell out of you. You don't have to own one of Wolfsburgs finest, a love of dubs and a love of life will suffice.

Time has taken its toll on the club, members come and go, as has the original ethic, now as we are all ageing, its become more appealing to drive something with decent heating, more comfort etc etc, the list goes on.
There is still plenty of Aircooled within the club, but there is also now just as many watercooled.
Coming up for our 10th anniversary year, we look forward with even more enthusiasm than we did when we first started Rugbydubs.
